"What
is a drug?”
A drug is a substance other
than food which changes:
- How
the body works and/or
- How
you act and/or
- How
you feel and/or
- How
you think
When
is a drug harmful and when is a drug medicine?
A drug is a medicine when
it is used in a prescribed way (under
the advice of a doctor or a chemist) to
treat and prevent disease or illness.
Using drugs, often illicit
substances, without medical supervision
may result in harm to the individual and
result in the person becoming dependent
on that drug. There are two forms of dependence:
1. Physical Dependence
2. Psychological
Dependence
