Types of Drugs - AmphetamineAmpethamines

Substance: Amphetamine

Category: Stimulant

Legal Status
The Misuse of Drugs Act prohibits their unauthorised production, supply or possession. It is also an offence to allow one's premises be the venue for same.

Short-term effects
Strong stimulants. Effects last 3-4 hours. At higher doses intense exhilaration and feelings of greatly increased mental and physical abilities, sometimes panic and paranoia. After "a run" of repeated doses over several days, a temporary psychotic state is possible. Immediate and intensely pleasurable "rush" after injection. Direct overdose deaths are rare.

After high doses, paranoid thinking and occasionally psychotic states can occur; these clear up once use stops. Regular frequent use is associated with generally poor health due to lack of sleep and poor appetite. Withdrawal effects can be severe.

Stimulant, Speed, Whizz, Uppers, Billy, Dexedrine, Ritalin and Sulphate

Method of use
Pills and capsules taken by mouth. Methamphetamine crystals are injected.


NOTE:
The effect upon the individual of any drug may vary, depending on factors such as the expectations of the user, mood, amount used, the setting, tolerance, and whether it is mixed with other drugs, which can be fatal. Some of the drugs above are synthetic drugs which are produced in unregulated laboratories. As such they are rarely pure and are often altered with a range of toxic and other dangerous agents.
